A Dedication

Music news from New York City! ...via the Internet, because I'm not actually there. (And on another note, could they be any more goddamned adorable?)

The last night of Mumford and Sons' North American tour, apparently a very touching moment took place. It was Tuesday the 16th, at Terminal 5 in Manhattan. The sons were playing the first song of their encore with their two opening bands, the very different but equally talented King Charles (below) and Cadillac Sky (above). The song is King Charles' own "Lady of the River," a hauntingly beautiful piece I saw them perform in Philadelphia. It showcased the talent of every one of the numerous musicians on stage. About halfway into the song, King Charles made an announcement.

"This is the first song I wrote when I started playing country music with Mumford and Sons," he told the (large, enthusiastic) audience and his touring mates. "I want to give this song to Mumford and Sons. This is now a Mumford and Sons song."

The whole band was apparently shocked. Marcus' jaw "dropped" and he embraced King Charles before declaring the gift to be "genuinely one of my favorite songs of all time." I wonder if they'll cover it on their next album?

The article I got this delightful tidbit from came from Spinner, and can be found here.
How cool is that? The world could use a lot more of that kind of comradery, if you ask me.

UPDATE 12/4: King Charles and Cadillac Sky are both on Twitter! KC is currently recording in LA, so it's fun to follow him right now. No sign of the Mumfords yet, but HOLY CRAP they got a Grammy nomination for best new artist!!! If they lose to Justin Beiber I'll kill that little shit.
