Wow, what an interesting few weeks it's been.
I was ungodly ill the entire first week of Deirdre and Co's stay with us, and progressed to still rather severely ill the following week: hacking cough, 100-degree fevers, congestion and other nasal symptoms, lethargy and lack of appetite, difficulty breathing...all that jazz. This week I've been feeling better, but still not 100 percent. Thursday, following some rather severe (by that I mean I was nearly in tears) pain in the ribcage area, I decided it was probably time to go to the doctor. Sure enough, I have pneumonia with ribcage bruising and one or two other infections. Awesome! I feel kinda badass, though; I've been working my ass off while my lungs quietly struggle for life, and I haven't really let it interfere. (Also, my great-grandfather DIED at home of pneumonia when he was in his early forties, I believe.) Go me?
Anyway, I really, really like working at the library! It's quiet and relaxing and I even ran the place for four hours by myself this morning without ruining anything! I seem to be learning pretty quickly. The biggest challenges so far have been 1) How the hell to use the fax machine (aren't those irrelevant yet?!) and 2)dealing with the amazing amount of surplus material that's crowded into the back hallways. Yesterday, my coworker and I spent the entire day dragging boxes upon boxes of books out of a back closet to organize them for an upcoming book sale. Lo and behold, after we got about 75% of the stuff out of there, I come to find that that area wasn't a closet...it's a bathroom. Yeah. The place is very disorganized and it needs a lot of work, and a lot of love, but I'm up for the challenge! And I enjoy it so much more than my job at the restaurant, but unfortunately, I still need it for the time being.
In other news, heartbreaker of a world cup match today!! I was SO disappointed that the USA was eliminated. Not even Landon Donovan could save us. I didn't realize I'd get so into it! I was groaning and screaming and yelling at the TV like a drunk football fan; it's almost embarrassing! Still, even though we're out I'll continue to follow and cheer for England, of course, and the Netherlands, on behalf of Deirdre and Co...though I'll probably miss most of the matches due to work!
Still haven't gotten around to a Gettysburg post, and am not quite feeling up to it at the moment. I may get around to it early next week before we go on vacation to Lake Canadaigua, New York! I'm very excited to go and am hoping to write a post about that area as well.
